Dr Gregor Irwin is a director and chief economist of Global Counsel, a strategic advisory firm specialising in political and regulatory risk. He leads the firm’s global macro practices, advising international investors and corporate strategists on how political events and policy choices create risks and opportunities. Before joining Global Counsel in 2015, he was the chief economist of the British foreign ministry for six years. He has also worked for the Bank of England and British treasury on international economic and financial issues. In his earlier career, Gregor worked as an academic at Oxford University and as a consultant for the strategy firm Marakon Associates.
