Sue moved to the Legal Services arena when she joined Clarke Willmott in April 2016. Prior to that she spent most of her career within major financial services organisations creating holistic and cross functional  teams to provide strategic information security services and the provision of intelligent advice enabling the fulfillment of strategic business plans; her most recent roles being the Group Financial Crime, Information Security and Data Protection Director for Friends Life and then UK Chief Information Security Officer for Aviva.

Sue has a wide role encompassing developing security risk assessments and associated appetites and policies, advising support teams on maintaining secure IT and physical environments, and building simple to use control frameworks to evidence that standards and regulations are complied with. She has also recently been appointed the Willmott Data Protection Officer and is currently managing the project to achieve compliance to EU GDPR.

Sue is passionate that, whilst technical skills are important, the ability to communicate at all levels is the greatest skill an information security professional can have and also that the technology, systems and processes that we put in place to safeguard our businesses are appropriate and practical for the actual risk that the business faces. Sue is a member of, and contributor to, various forums whose aim is to assist all organisations reach the standards they wish to via the open sharing of knowledge and experience.
